Job Description:
Collaborative Senior Software Engineer sought by industry-leading Canadian Asset Management & Insurance Company.
For a journey this exciting and complex, we are looking for an experienced Mainframe Software Engineer who can design, develop, support, and analyze large scale applications and systems. The successful candidate will be an Ingenium subject matter expert, have strong technical and problem-solving skills, and will show initiative, be accepting of responsibility and be accountable for results.

What will you do?
- Provide Ingenium subject matter expertise to deliver analysis, solution design, development and implementation of projects
- Communicate effectively and utilize your technical and business knowledge to lead technical discussions with project development teams, business sponsors, and external technical partners in a manner that ensures understanding of risks, options and overall solutions
- Effectively consult/support technical discussions with peers and Business Sponsors ensuring alignment to both technology and business visions
- Be a collaborative team member who continuously strives to improve the client experience, our team, and our processes.
- Stay current with trends in emerging technologies and how they could apply to Sun Life
What you will need to succeed?
- Proven track record designing, implementing and troubleshooting Ingenium insurance solutions.
- Collaborate with teams and peers to think beyond the immediate problem and analyze situations systematically to deliver effective right-sized solutions.
- Coach and provide leadership to peers on tools, techniques, and processes.
- Be cognizant of the future direction of systems, impact to the business and how future and current systems can be exploited for the benefit of the portfolio by staying current on assessments of technology for the business.
- Build strong relationships/credibility within business and IT ultimately influencing positive outcomes.
- Lead, co-ordinate and/or execute technical work such as design and development.
- Demonstrate strong ownership of technical work.
- Perform health checks of existing systems to identify if technology changes are required to remain current.
- Create/update living documentation for current design and participate in peer reviews.
- Stay current with trends in emerging technologies and how they could apply to Sun Life
- Ideally you will have one or more of the following:
- 8+ years’ progressive information technology experience with full application development life cycle and systems integration experience
- Keen appetite for learning relevant technologies and for continuous self-improvement
- Excellent working knowledge of the IBM OS/390 mainframe environment
- Excellent working knowledge of COBOL, TSO/ISPF, DB2, JCL and other mainframe utilities
- Understanding of JSP, MQ Series and other middleware technologies
- Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, SonarQube, Artifactory, Ansible and CDD
- Excellent problem analysis and trouble shooting skills
- Strong leadership, planning, organizational and consulting skills
- Working knowledge of IMS as well as the PL/I and SAS development languages
- Knowledge of Insurance and Wealth Investments Financial Service industries

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.
