We are looking for a full-time: Unit Clerk

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Unit Clerk is responsible for providing clerical services to the nursing department; keeping the department efficient and effective. The clerk will also act as a resource to help perform data entry, maintain resident charts and file documents.

Additionally, the Unit Clerk will:

  • Answer telephone calls and deliver messages to residents & staff.
  • Monitor residents’ appointments and arranging appropriate transport and escort for these appointments.
  • Schedule staff shift replacement.
  • Take departmental meeting minutes, type minutes and create agenda for future meetings.
  • Maintain storage, organization and destruction of confidential records.
  • Organize and schedule multi-disciplinary care conferences including admission care conferences for all residents.
  • Organize and deliver resident mail/newspapers.
  • Distribute Resident Admission and Annual Satisfaction Surveys for residents and families.
  • Format and type organizational documents.

Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Administration Course an asset.
  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary diploma/degree an asset.
  • Experience with staff scheduling.
  • Minimum of one (1) year business administration experience an asset.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, document formatting and PointClickCare.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of retirement/long-term care home structure and functions.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to interact with a range of individuals in a variety of situations, which require tact, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability (through performance) to be highly motivated and flexible with the ability to adapt quickly to new situations/challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability (through performance) to organize and prioritize workload and multitask under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability (through performance) to work both independently and as a productive team member.
  • Understands and demonstrates (through performance) an acceptable level of ethical conduct and a thorough understanding of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Above average work performance and attendance record required.
