The Opportunity


The Technical Support Specialist is the key interface between our information technology systems and our business end-users. The Technical Support Specialist will work alongside business users and technical analysts and report directly to the Manager, IT Infrastructure and Security.


The responsibilities for this role include day to day deskside support, provisioning and configuring end-user devices, network and server support in on-premise and Microsoft Azure environments, as well as incident management. Success in this role, requires a high level of organizational skills, ability to support a broad range of technology capabilities, strong technical acumen, and a natural analytical way of thinking while interacting with and assisting non-technical users.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide deskside support for business technology end-users, including training, incident resolution, installation, configuration
  • Provision, configure and install desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, servers, and network devices (both wired and wireless)
  • Provision simple SharePoint sites and configure basic access requests
  • Improve systems effectiveness by recommending current best-practices and new and innovative ways to improve systems efficiency
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on the latest processes and IT advancements to automate and modernize systems
  • Conduct presentations and training sessions to share ideas and improve end-user productivity through updated knowledge regarding technology use
  • Document systems configurations and track software licenses and hardware assets
  • Track technical incidents and resolve problems in a proactive permanent way
  • Ensure systems are available, reliable and high performing
  • Update, implement and maintain system maintenance procedures
  • Additional technology related duties as necessary to support the day to day Insurance Council business activities

Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in technology
  • A minimum of 5 years experience supporting approximately 80 or more end-users
  • A minimum of 5 years experience supporting Microsoft OS based desktops and networks
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Advanced competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure platform is an advantage
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint
  • Working knowledge of MS SQL Server
