The Opportunity
At Univeris, the Software Developer Intern performs a variety of activities involving the analysis, design, development, operation, and maintenance of software, following an iterative software development process. The Software Developer Intern is assigned duties based on the project's needs and executes them while conforming to the Univeris internal processes, procedures, and software engineering best practices.
The successful candidate should be a team player and self-organized individual with a "can-do attitude" and strong problem-solving skills, capable of developing productive relationships with all relevant parties. Furthermore, the candidate should also have a good working knowledge of Java, the software development life cycle, have a quality-first mindset, be a quick learner, and be a self-starter.

The Role
Design, develop, test high-quality functional code
Design and develop unit, integration and automation testing code
Integrate software components into a fully functional software system
May have to assemble, package, deploy software in specific environments
Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing systems
Document and maintain software functionality
Participate in design discussions, code reviews and code inspections
Develop proof of concepts based on designs, where necessary
Collaborate with your team and possibly other teams, and participate in testing activities

Strong organization skills, interpersonal skills and excellent attention to detail

Aptitude and interest to quickly learn technologies, methods, and processes
Proactivity in terms of identifying areas of weakness and striving for improvement
Firm grasp of object-oriented programming core principles and concepts

Educational Qualifications

  • Enrolment in a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
  • Completion of 3rd year of study, with a plan to return to school after the internship.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada and must be enrolled in a co-op education program in Ontario that supports a 16-contiguous-month work term.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on Java development experience in a previous work setting or during course of study

Desirables

  • Experience with J2EE, Spring, or/and API-centric applications
  • Experience with quality technologies: unit testing (JUnit, EasyMock, Mockito, etc), automation and integration testing
  • Experience working with open source libraries and projects
  • Working experience with Git/Maven in a continuous build, continuous deployment environment
  • Working experience with Agile software development process
The Work Environment
Our mid-sized office environment is in a great location downtown - we are right by St. Lawrence Market, close to the Distillery District, and 10 minutes away from the Financial District!

Work may be in-office, remote, or hybrid, collaborating with other team members in-personal and digitally during regular business hours.

We offer a flexible schedule, however, some work outside of normal business hours may be required on occasion due to time-constrained activities or collaborating with remote teams
