Service Technician Helper
Reporting to the Shop Foreman and Service Coordinator, the Service Technician (Helper) acts primarily to provide shop labour, cleanup and shop organization to ensure a safe and orderly work environment. In addition, this person assists Service Technicians to repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain mobile and stationary heavy-duty equipment used mainly in but not restricted to the aggregate industry such as:
- Screeners
- Crushers
- Feeders
- Wash plants
- Conveyors
Duties/Responsibilities:
Primary Duties:
- Keep shop clean and free of debris, including lunchroom, first aid room, bathroom and storage yard to ensure a safe and orderly work environment.
- Work with the Service Coordinator to enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
- Operate a forklift
- Do deliveries and pickups
Secondary Duties:
Assist Service Technicians with the following list of duties with the goal that eventually, with experience and mastery of these skills, a Service Technician Helper can advance to a Service Technician Apprentice position. For a successful candidate, this can involve enrollment and sponsorship in an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship program.
- Maintain Service Vehicles in an orderly, safe, operational condition
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance
- Maintain equipment appearance by cleaning, washing and painting.
- Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work
- In collaboration with the Shop Foreman, diagnose equipment problems and determine repairs needed
- Perform work in either shop or outdoor construction/quarry site settings
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes.
- Repair, overhaul, maintain and service
- diesel powered equipment
- cooling systems,
- lubrication systems,
- engine control systems, installation and alignment of engines and machinery.
- hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Practice workplace safety.
- Complete daily timesheets accurately and in a timely fashion to ensure a consistent and complete service record for all equipment worked upon.
- Act in a courteous manner in order to project a positive company image.
- Assist with other duties as required from time to time.
Skills
· Willing to learn and take direction
· Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
· Capable of basic welding, gas and electric
· Must be able to communicate well with coworkers
· Must have a valid driver’s license (minimum class 5)
· Must be able to work under pressure in some situations
· Must be able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies
· Work overtime as required
· Be willing to participate in additional training (on company time and at company expense) as required
· Drive company vehicles when necessary in accordance with the Company Policy Concerning Employee Use of Company Vehicles.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $18.00-$28.00 per hour
