Job Description:
We are seeking a Volunteer Research Coordinator (mental health) to collaborate with our team on research projects related to mental health. Through this research initiative, we strive to gain a better understanding of the causes and treatments of mental health disorders, identify areas of improvement in mental health interventions, and provide recommendations for developing more effective programs to address mental health issues. The studies will also serve to educate the general public.
Responsibilities:
- Designing and planning research studies: The Research Coordinator will be responsible for collaborating with the research team to design and plan research studies. This includes determining research questions, selecting appropriate research methods, and creating research protocols.
- Participant recruitment: The Research Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting participants for research studies. This involves creating recruitment materials, screening potential participants, and obtaining informed consent.
- Data collection: The Research Coordinator will be responsible for collecting data for research studies. This includes conducting interviews, administering surveys, and collecting physiological data.
- Data management: The Research Coordinator will be responsible for managing research data. This includes organizing, cleaning, and analyzing data using statistical software.
- Research ethics: The Research Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that research studies comply with ethical standards. This includes obtaining approval from the research ethics board (REB), protecting participant confidentiality, and ensuring that informed consent is obtained from participants.
- Project management: The Research Coordinator will be responsible for managing research projects, including developing timelines, creating budgets, and ensuring that milestones are met.
- Collaboration: The Research Coordinator will be responsible for collaborating with other members of the research team, including research assistants, data analysts, principal investigators, and other project staff.
- Dissemination: The Research Coordinator will be responsible for disseminating research findings. This includes creating presentations, writing manuscripts, and presenting research findings at conferences and other events.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Education: The successful applicant must have a Master's degree in a related field, such as Psychology, Public Health Education or Counseling, focusing on mental health, addiction, program evaluation, qualitative research methodologies, and data analysis.
- Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience in research and evaluation of mental health interventions or similar fields utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods is required.
- Research Skills: The successful candidate must have strong research skills, including the ability to design and conduct studies, collect and analyze data, and interpret findings.
- Knowledge of Mental Health Disorders: The candidate must possess a comprehensive knowledge of mental health disorders, including their causes, symptoms, and treatments.
- Analytical Skills: The candidate must possess strong analytical skills, including critical thinking and data analysis, to identify patterns and draw conclusions.
- Communication Skills: The candidate must be able to communicate their findings effectively, both in writing and verbally, to other researchers, healthcare professionals, and the general public.
- Ethics: They must understand and follow ethical guidelines for research, including protecting the privacy and confidentiality of study participants.
- Continuing Education: The applicant must remain current with the most recent research and developments in their area of expertise by reading journals or engaging in professional development opportunities.
- Personal attributes: The successful candidate must have a passion for mental health research, curiosity, open-mindedness, flexibility, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
