Quality Investigator

Job Location: Hamilton, ON

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

About the role

Stelco has an immediate opening for a Quality Investigator in the Quality Assurance department at our Hamilton, ON facility.

Safety is the Core Value of Stelco and the individual will make Safety the #1 priority in the execution of all work activities, including monitoring contractor/vendor safety in support of work efforts.

Your day-to-day

· Review daily quality including surface evaluation, mill and quality audits and assessments of non-conforming products

· Conduct and assist with projects aimed at improving product quality by reducing rejects, rework and variability

· Engage in project work aimed at improving yields and reducing costs

· Work on product and process development trials

· Collect, analyze, and trend quality data and issue quality reports

· Provide technical assistance to line operating personnel to resolve process and quality problems

· Provide technical assistance to other business units to address product issues and resolve complaints

· May be required to handle samples for inspection purposes

What you bring to the table-

Job Qualifications:

· Degree or diploma in Metallurgical Engineering

· 1-year metallurgical experience, 3 years preferred

· Or 5 years relevant Steel industry experience

Job Skills and Knowledge:

· Good knowledge and understanding of automotive and commercial customer standards and common steel industry testing standards

· Good knowledge and experience with melting, refining, casting and other steel processing activities would be an asset

· Good knowledge in identification and inspection of various steel defects is an asset

· Good interpersonal and leadership skills

· Good problem solving skills, effective and accurate decision making

· Ability to multi task and prioritize work load

· Good oral and written communication skills

· Good knowledge and understanding of statistical process control and analysis techniques

· Previous experience with steel inclusion analysis techniques is an asset

· Ability and desire to work in a shop floor environment

· Good computer skills, especially MS Office

· Knowledge of other software packages is an asset

· An enthusiastic approach and ability to learn quickly and assume responsibility are essential

· Ability to travel occasionally and work outside of normal hours if required

· As an individual contributor, qualified candidates for this role also must demonstrate the ability to champion change and effective communication while contributing to team success.
