What do you offer?

Reporting to the HFA Management Team, the Program Director - Recreation oversees and gives leadership, support, and coaching to both Fitness Program and Child Youth and Family Programming staff, volunteers, and members. The Program Director is responsible for managing program schedules, and staffing levels, ensuring and maintaining staff certifications, program participation rates, and client feedback for all group fitness and individual fitness programs and CYF programs offered within the centres of the YMCA of the NCR.

The Program Director is tasked with ensuring a high standard of professionalism, program quality, as well as community engagement as it relates to member experiences within Fitness and CYR programming. The Program Director oversees the organization of, and ongoing operations of, the Y Sports Leagues.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a personal commitment to and understanding of the Y’s mission, vision, values, and participant outcomes.

Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • There will be occasional program teaching requirements to cover absenteeism
  • Leads departmental recruitment and training
  • Provides leadership, direction, coaching, and guidance to Staff and Volunteers
  • Ability to make decisions and identify problems in the capacity of a manager
  • Leads departmental program operation, implementation, reviews, and updates
  • Annual and ongoing reviews and program evaluations, of Staff and Volunteer performance
  • Understanding of the budget process and how to plan and develop programs and services that reflect changing community needs
  • Strong Influence on the purchase/selection of new equipment for the department
  • Involved in brainstorming for equipment needs
  • First draft preparation of annual departmental budget
  • Periodic review of staffing and equipment costs vs. revenue (member) numbers
  • Annual and ongoing reviews and program evaluations, of Staff and Volunteer performance

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

  • Post-Secondary accreditation, or equivalent experience, in Health Promotion, Kinesiology, Physical or Health Education

Language

  • Fluency in English, oral and written preferred
  • Other languages an asset

Experience, Abilities & Skills

  • 2-3 years of related experience
  • Fitness certification as a Personal Trainer, a strong asset
  • Fitness certification in one, or some of, Aquafit, Yoga, TRX, Functional Fitness, Group Fitness, Post Rehab (or others), a requirement
  • Knowledge of Legend or other databases/client management systems is needed
  • Knowledge and frequent use of the MS Office suite of products are required
  • Current First Aid/CPR
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills

Additional Requirements

  • This role is performed at multiple sites and will require travel to other sites for meetings, training or events
  • Applicant must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Current Level 3, Vulnerable Sector Police Record check per Association Policy
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons and submit the certificate of completion.
