The District of Sparwood is searching for a talented and experienced Manager of Human Resources for a temporary, 12-month term. Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Manager of Human Resources (HR) is responsible for providing support to the organization by overseeing the human resource, health and safety and emergency management portfolios. The Manager will be part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and as such, should be a proactive, collaborative thinker with the ability to adapt to change and interact with people in a professional and courteous manner.

The Manager of HR is responsible for full-cycle HR processes including recruitment, retention, and labour relations. The Manager is also responsible for the District’s Emergency Management Plan and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) portfolio and their related initiatives. The incumbent must possess the ability to deal with complex and confidential issues with tact, as well as prioritize the ongoing maintenance of employee relations. The Manager will provide support to all District Departments in the provision of human resources and will responsibly guide the District in occupational health and safety and emergency management initiatives.

The core job duties include:

  • Demonstrates leadership through innovative, collaborative and progressive thinking on improving short and long-term initiatives, strategic priorities, and projects
  • Participates as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and provides recommendations to processes, policy development, human resource management, health and safety and other management decision making processes
  • Provides full-cycle Human Resource related duties to all departments
  • Reviews, updates and maintains the Occupational Health and Safety program and related health and safety related policies and procedures

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Resources and/or Labour Relations preferred
  • A minimum of five years HR generalist experience within a unionized environment
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR Designation) or Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation will be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills including the ability to understand and consistently apply and explain collective agreement provisions and corporate policies
  • Sound knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations and considerable experience related to implementing and leading safe work procedures and practices within a diverse organization

A wide range of non-traditional education and/or equivalent work experience will be considered.

The starting salary for this position is between $100,000 and $105,000 (dependent on education and experience). This salary package includes a full range of employer paid benefits, annual vacation entitlement, an earned day off program, up to 3-weeks of time off in lieu of overtime and an Active Living Pass for access to the Leisure Centre courts, fitness centre, climbing wall, pool, arena and many of the drop-in fitness classes.
