Reports to: Director of Research and Development
Status: Full-time
Location: Hamilton

Job Scope
Reporting to the Director, Research and Development, this position is responsible for formulation, optimization and development of new products from the concept stage to full-scale production. The incumbent is expected to stay current with the latest scientific and technical advancements in food science with respect to dairy products, ingredients, processes and packaging.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in product development initiatives (cheese focused) to improve the quality of existing products and increase the cost efficiencies in the manufacturing facilities.
  • Support in Research and Development projects as defined by the Director of R&D and the Innovation Council.
  • Provide technical support and expertise in problem solving for issues relating to product development and functionality.
  • Support and coordinate plant trials within a manufacturing environment.
  • Generate and maintain raw material and finished product documentation for all related products.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory processes and equipment to ensure operational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Conduct and coordinate internal sensory evaluation tests, accurately analyze products as required and report results.
  • Communicate experimental results to senior research scientists and support technical investigation.
  • Product accurate documentation and reports to support SR&ED tax credits.
  • Travel approximately 20-25% (within Canada).
Qualifications
  • Must have a university Bachelor’s degree, majoring in Science (food/dairy science) with a focus on dairy processing, preferably cheese.
  • Master’s degree focused on dairy OR 1-2 years of relevant experience in a food company; within the dairy industry – preferably cheese focused.
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Hands on experience in dairy chemistry, ingredients interactions and functionality and processing.
