This opportunity is a split role between the Intercultural Skills Lab (ISL) and Initiative for Women in Business (IWB). The Intercultural Skills Lab (ISL) promotes the development of intercultural competence to create teams that are engaged, inclusive and transformative. As the Financial Officer, you will be responsible for providing a range of specific services to an assigned portfolio. You will participate in budget development, implementation and management processes; assist in completing budget and planning forms; input data into the department’s financial data tracking systems and contribute to all financial reports.
Your responsibilities will include:
Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts- Contract management for instructors, coaches, vendors, and suppliers
- Monitoring department budget to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations; forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries
- Preparing and issuing invoices for accounts receivables and informing appropriate team member of outstanding payments if required
- Preparing department's payables and receivable invoices; reconcile department credit card expenses and expense reimbursements
- Preparing budget variance reports; preparing financial summary reports; analyzing reports generated by the Financial Services Office and reconciling with internal expense tracker
- Identifying and analyzing data discrepancies and taking necessary actions to correct errors
- Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Accounting and advance standing in a recognized accounting program; or acceptable combination of equivalent education and experience- Minimum four (4) years relevant experience in a fast-paced, multidepartment division, University setting
- Experience in analyzing complex financial information; knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures
- Knowledge of University Administrative Management System; FIS experience is essential; knowledge of University's budgeting and financial policies
- Specific experience in financial information systems, with highly developed computer skills required, including working knowledge of MS Office 365; highly proficient use of advanced Excel spreadsheets and Word
- Hands-on experience with: the University's procurement policies and procedures; setting up and adjusting purchase orders; budget preparation and budget management processes; accounts receivable processes; and reconciling internal systems to University systems
- Experience working with various internal and external stakeholders, including budget managers, management teams, vendors, the Office of the Controller, and the Division of University Advancement
- Superior interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to exercise judgment in prioritizing and time-managing work and dealing with customers; ability to organize and manage high volumes of paperwork
- Ability to balance the competing demands of day-to-day work with special requirements of projects
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team; able to work efficiently with a wide variety of people at different levels of the University
- Analytical ability; numerical competency; demonstrated attention to detail
- Demonstrated initiative; ability to respond to and initiate change and to work well under pressure
