Job Opportunity: Director, Environmental Projects, RBT2
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (the “Port”) is responsible for the stewardship of federal port lands at the Port of Vancouver. Its mandate is to enable Canada’s trade through the Port of Vancouver, while protecting the environment and considering local communities. The Port is governed by an independent Board of Directors and is accountable to the federal minister of transport under the Canada Marine Act.
Employing over 550 people, the Port operates in a complex regulatory and strategic environment. As one of the world’s most diversified ports and a significant part of British Columbia’s and Canada’s dynamic gateway for trade and tourism, the Port of Vancouver generates an estimated $11.9 billion in GDP and represents a major economic force that underpins the strength of the Canadian economy through international trade.
The Roberts Bank Terminal 2 (RBT2) project is a marine container terminal in development on Canada’s west coast led by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. RBT2 will play a critical role in supporting Canadian importers and exporters who increasingly want to trade with economies around the world. This project involves the construction of a new three-berth marine container terminal at the Port of Vancouver in Delta, British Columbia. The terminal will be located in deep, subtidal waters to minimize environmental effects and is funded by a combination of the financially self-sufficient Port Authority and private investment.
The Director, Environmental Projects, RBT2 is responsible for strategic leadership, direction and oversight for the following departments and teams: Environmental Mitigation Projects, Habitat Offsetting, Follow up Program and Fisheries Act Authorization. This is an amazing opportunity to lead the largest Species at Risk Act compliant Fisheries Act Authorization in Canada and the team that delivers it. The Director, Environmental Projects, RBT2 will also establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships with senior levels of governments, Indigenous communities, and environmental and conservation groups.
The ideal candidate will bring experience providing leadership and direction in the areas of environmental and sustainability programs, including Fisheries Act authorizations, habitat enhancement/offsetting construction and large-scale environmental monitoring/follow-up programs. The candidate will also have experience in ensuring compliance with environmental commitments and requirements and reporting to regulatory agencies. Candidates will have demonstrated high levels of professionalism, public speaking, strategic thinking skills and strong leadership capabilities. Good judgment, emotional maturity, strong relationship skills and high ethical standards will contribute to success in this role.
Come be a part of the most ambitious Port project in Canada’s history and an organization recognized as one of BC’s Top Employers.
