JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:

Please note, our job posting procedure for this term will not involve a series of individual job
postings. For the Fall 2023 term co-op recruitment, we are posting this single job description
which represents multiple, varied positions located in the Lower Mainland and other areas of BC.

Candidate selection, interviews and hiring will take place continuously from this single posting –
this means while there is a closing date listed, hiring managers will regularly review applications
submitted shortly after the posting is live in your Co-op system. So, we recommend you apply
early to get the best visibility from all hiring managers.

By applying to this one posting, you will be considered for each of the openings across our
engineering teams.

The location for most of the positions for this co-op postings is: Edmonds Office, Burnaby.

Students invited to interview will receive more detail of the specific position(s) the student is being
considered for during the interview.

As a Co-op student, you will learn and experience:
  • Practical, hands-on work experience directly related to your specific field of study.
  • Learning and training opportunities, including opportunities to network with your division.
  • Learn all about other divisions and initiatives at BC Hydro.
  • Take advantage of the opportunity to explore future career options.

Depending on what team the successful candidate is hired into, duties can also include some of
the following:
  • Provide assistance and support to mechanical engineering teams
  • Work mainly in the office, but may participate in some field work
  • Participate in high value, multi-disciplinary project work and gain valuable insight into the
organization and implementation of large capital projects. Gain exposure to the exciting and

increasingly growing hydro electric industry.

Qualifications:

  • To qualify as a candidate, individuals must be enrolled in a Co-op Program and have yet to
graduate from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada
  • Completed a minimum of 2nd year of mechanical engineering studies at an accredited university
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills, highly motivated and results oriented.
  • Some positions require a valid Class 5 BC driver's license.



ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • As a condition of employment at BC Hydro, a background check clearance will be required.

  • All positions will be hired first as a four month work term. For some positions, there is opportunity
to extend, to eight months.

  • May accept applications from students who are enrolled in and who have not yet graduated from
a recognized post secondary institution and who may not be enrolled in a co-op program.

Flexible work model role definitions
===========================
Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home
based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for
each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time
from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
