Job Summary

The Boat Centre/LOTW Docking is looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Junior Mechanic / Yard Technician. This position is very exciting and has a fast-paced work life where your responsibilities may change from day to day while keeping in mind the short-term and long-term goals for each of the businesses. From early mornings at the shop to late nights turning a wrench, the job will bring on a lot of unexpected challenges and opportunities.

Position Overview:

1. Keep the shop and shop yard clean and organized

2. Launch/Pull customer boats from water

3. Winterize/Summerize boats

4. Replace/repair any and all mechanical/electronics work as assigned

5. Complete Interior and Exterior Detail/Polish work on boats as assigned

6. Learn about and complete Gelcoat Repairs as directed

7. Installation of boat accessories

8. Document all work completed, and parts used for repairs as well as time duration for repair

9. Ordering parts stock/repair parts as required

10. Tracking and updating shop inventory records

11. Build relationships with shop customers and promote the different shop services

12. Work as required to fulfill operations requirements such as property openings and maintenance

13. Assist in the process of setting up docks for the summer

14. Assist to winterize/summarize water pressure systems for marinas and other properties

15. Assist in marina openings

16. Other operational duties as assigned

Major Work Activities:

The Junior Mechanic / Yard Technician is responsible for the execution of business activities at The Boat Centre/LOTW Docking in the following ways but not limited to:

LOTW Docking

- Reaching out to customer database by phone to secure new business and respond to inquires for the following areas: winterization & storage, boat service, repair and detailing.

- Developing and maintaining a strong relationship with customers to increase customer retention and satisfaction

- Assisting in the removal and install of dock ramps and anchors at all docking locations

- Assisting in the draining and energizing water systems at Marinas

- Assisting in maintenance for docking locations when required throughout the season

- Assisting in Spring and Fall Winterization of Docks at each Docking Location

- Other operational duties as assigned

The Boat Centre

- Answering the shop phone/texts and providing quotes to potential customers.

-Working closely with The Boat Centre shop manager to secure new business through creating and confirming customer quotes.

- Wrapping and Unwrapping Boats and watercraft

- Organizing Boats in the Yard

- Transporting boats between Lake of The Woods and The Boat Centre

- Mechanical repairs as assigned by shop manager

- Completing and keeping record of checklists for all vessels and vessel contents going into and coming out of storage

- Shrink wrapping and winterizing Customers’ boats for storage

- Other operational duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Customer service focus, excellent communication skills used to treat all customers and team members with respect and professionalism.
  • Ability to provide manager with information and recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude including being flexible with changing needs of customers.
  • Able to perform all assigned duties with attention to detail, speed & accuracy.
  • Able to prioritize, organize, and follow up on tasks until completion.
  • Be a clear thinker, and able to resolve problems using critical thinking.
  • Able to follow direction closely and thoroughly.
  • Have extensive knowledge of boating, navigation and fishing on Lake of the Woods.
  • Have basic knowledge of equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to focus and maintain attention to performance of tasks despite stressful, emergency, critical, or unusual interruptions.
  • Able to monitor and maintain accurate records of inventory, equipment and fuel.
  • Excellent time management skills. Able to stay on schedule and keep track of time when it comes to planning and scheduling guests’ activities.

Certificates/Licenses:

Junior Mechanic / Yard Technician must maintain:

  • PWC license and extensive boating experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Job Type: Seasonal
Contract length: 5 months

Salary: $2,880.00 per month
