Silviculture Forester Job at Pacific Woodtech
Job Purpose
To manage & supervise various facets of Silviculture operations in the Malakwa and Revelstoke BC areas. Focus is on supervising Silviculture activities and may include forest development, operations & planning, wildfire protection and prevention.
Key Responsibilities
- Personal and Contractor Safety
- Working under Woodlands Manager - Responsible for implementation of silviculture program including but not limited to site plans, site preparation, hazard abatement, planting, fertilization, brushing, surveys, seed procurement, and rehabilitation in compliance with various Operational Plans, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinating Post Harvest activities, including road & trail deactivation, pile burning, and fire protection.
- Administering various government funded programs and Special Projects.
- Administration associated with job position (Budgets, contracts, coordinating contractors, tracking and reporting of costs, reviewing/processing invoices, documenting inspections, government reporting)
- Participation in and annual responsibilities for Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification and audits.
- Using, and updating Woodlands GIS System to ensure silviculture related data is kept current for use by the Woodlands Team.
- Liaising with the PWT Malakwa & Golden Operations & Planning staff on priorities and results.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- safety conscious,
- good planning, GIS, GPS skills and ability to coordinate resources,
- good communicator and good interpersonal skills, team player,
- knowledge of applicable forestry and safety legislation,
- ability to drive in a variety of field and highway conditions,
- ability to operate a computer and supporting software,
- Class 5 driver’s license in good standing;
- Strong understanding of technical forest management including operational planning, logging systems, silviculture systems, regeneration.
- Demonstrated analytical, communication, and computer skills, including ArcGIS.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with First Nations, external stakeholders, government agencies, and the public.
- Attention to detail and a willingness to learn & adapt are critical.
Education:
Forestry Degree, diploma, or extensive operational background in silviculture or forest management.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years forestry experience

- Outdoor environment subject to elements of nature.
