Set Up Student Job at Royal Botanical Gardens
Located at the head of Lake Ontario and within the municipalities of Burlington and Hamilton, Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) is the largest botanical garden in Canada and one of the nation’s earliest nature sanctuaries. Summer Students for this position work closely with our Special Events and Facilities departments and will be involved in the set-up and tear down of all RBG Special Events that occur throughout the summer season. Please note that this position adheres to pre-programmed events for the most part and as such requires candidates have a good schedule mindset with special attention to time lines. It is very interactive with clients and the public on a daily basis. Option to continue as part time position into the fall season as needed.
Duties :
- To set up and tear down all RBG Special Events which includes weddings, music nights, and all bloom festivals.
- To assist the Weekend Operations Manager with any situations that could arise resulting from many people attending an event. This will include emptying garbage bins, picking up garbage from the grounds, parking lots and any emergency clean-ups.
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness around tent areas before or after events and the cleaning of all equipment such as tables, chairs and other touchpoints.
- Cleanup of areas around the RBG main center compounds, parking lots, and garden areas.
- Assist the Maintenance dept. staff with various tasks as assigned.
- Assist with the Visitor Experience staff with customer surveys, parking cars, and assisting with entertainer’s setups.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Special Requirements - Employees in this position are required to wear CSA approved Green Patch Steel-Toe safety boots that extend 6-8’ above the ankle.
Qualifications :
- This position is available to students enrolled in a post-secondary or degree program at a College or University. The student must be enrolled in a spring and fall program to be eligible for employment.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, a clear statement of driving record, and a Police records check are required.
- The workweek consists of varying shifts (from 4-10 hours per shift) with a thirty (30) minute lunch break and two (2) fifteen (15) minute breaks totaling 40 hours per week. These breaks must be flexible to accommodate the operation.
