We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Hazardous Materials Specialist to join our Enterprise Environment
Department. Under the general guidance of the Manager, the Senior Hazardous Materials Specialist will be responsible for
development and delivery of Corporate programs, policies and procedures for the Management of Hazardous Materials including
releases and hazardous wastes enabling Manitoba Hydro's compliance with workplace safety, health and environmental legislation
and regulation. Represent the Corporation and interface with Corporate management and staff on issues of strategic EMS and SMS
importance and ISO4001 conformance.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and technical guidance as the Corporate expert and authority on hazardous materials management.
- Develop, direct and manage Corporate environmental and safety programs related to hazardous materials management,
including Prevention and Response to Hazardous Materials Releases, the Corporate Hazardous Waste Management
Program and the Petroleum Product Storage Tank Systems Program.
- Supervise a team of subject matter and technical specialists responsible for managing hazardous materials programs and
- Act as primary corporate liaison for line management with municipal, provincial, and federal regulatory agencies for all
- Chair and participate in key Corporate working groups, including the Area Spill Response Coordinators Network Committee
- Provide technical guidance to departments regarding prevention, response, decontamination and cleanup of hazardous
- Ensure that all Hazardous Waste generated by corporate activities are managed (i.e. collected, segregated, documented,
manner.
- Develop and deliver training presentations and support materials for hazardous materials management.
- Maintain and communicate expert level knowledge of current and emerging corporate policies and operational procedures as
- Participate on, or lead multi-disciplinary teams to develop new programs as required to facilitate compliance with workplace
- Investigate, develop and approve appropriate treatment/disposal methods for hazardous waste streams.
- Conduct assessments and audits of external organizations in order to provide recommendations for awarding of contracts.
- Registered with CANUTEC as a primary contact for the Corporate Dangerous Goods program.

Qualifications:
- Four year university degree from an institute of recognized standing in Environmental Science or Engineering with extensive
management/protection including two years of leadership experience.
- Masters degree in a relevant field would be considered an asset.
- Experience in developing and implementing programs related to environmental stewardship and enhancement, particularly for
- Extensive experience with, and a thorough understanding of federal and provincial regulatory requirements applicable to
- Well developed computer skills including the ability to maintain and manipulate data within a database.
- Demonstrated ability in collecting and analyzing data in order to prepare clear and concise technical reports.
- Demonstrated ability in preparing, delivering and facilitating effective presentations, workshops and seminars.
- Demonstrated teamwork, enthusiasm and initiative to effect improvements in Corporate programs for protecting the health
- Prepared to work in a variety of challenging environments.
- Prepared to travel throughout Manitoba.
- Possess and maintain a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $47.09-$64.51 Hourly,
$90,229.10-$123.616.48 Annually.
