As a Collection Driver working with Waste and Recycling, Collection Services, you will demonstrate safe and professional driving skills to collect waste materials left for collection. These jobs include the operation of single and tandem axle trucks, and the operation of auxiliary equipment and joy sticks. Manual labour will be involved. Primary duties include:

Drive a truck to residential, commercial, or public areas and waste management facilities.

Operate rear tipper, side loader, front end loader, and the manual handling of waste and containers.

Conduct vehicle inspections to ensure safe and proper working order.

Represent the City of Calgary to the public and demonstrate exceptional customer service.
Working Conditions: This position requires the ability to lift (up to a maximum of 20kg), sit, stand, drive, and climb in and out of trucks; knees, back, and shoulders must be able to withstand frequent periods of lifting; work in dusty conditions; work in all types of weather conditions.
Qualifications

A valid Class 3 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with a Q endorsement and no more than six demerits and with no current suspension or charges pending.

At least 2 years of recent Class 3 driving experience is required for most positions, and is preferred in all other positions.

High School diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED) will be considered an asset.

Ability to complete tasks with limited supervision, engage others, and build strong working relationships.
Pre-employment Requirements
- Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.
- Must be able to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit .

Applicants will be interviewed and hired throughout the duration of this competition.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
- An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant possessing a 3 year commercial drivers abstract with no more than 6 demerits. Failure to possess a 3 year abstract with no more than 6 demerits may prevent an applicant from being hired.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Pay Grade 1: $28.82 - 31.91 per hour
Pay Grade 2: $31.80 - 35.24 per hour
Pay Grade 3: $33.56 - 37.17 per hour
Days of Work: This position works a 4 day work week. Shifts vary to provide coverage for 7 day operations.
Hours of work: Non-Standard 38 hour work week/4 day work week
