Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may include lifting up to 30 lbs (13.6 kgs) and standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to work overtime, including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to carry-out activities requiring strong focus and concentration, including operating mechanical equipment, operating or maintaining precision tools, as well as monitoring visual display terminals
  • Able to undertake sensory components of the work, including observing, listening, smelling, tasting and touching food products. This also includes exposure to non-hazardous materials or substances with a strong odour and taste, and handling hazardous chemicals with appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Possess and maintain a valid Full Stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s License

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post secondary education in Bachelor of Science in Food, Agricultural, Chemical or Biosystems Engineering, or an equivalent combinations of education and experience in the food or related industry may be considered
  • Project management experience with an emphasis on food process development
  • Knowledge of food science to conduct research and food innovation, including food product development, microbiology and food engineering
  • Experience providing technical and science-based consulting, process troubleshooting and technology transfer in an industry setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team as well as build rapport and maintain positive relationships with a variety of stakeholder such as government departments and external clients.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Advanced organizational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple ongoing projects, shifting priorities and tight deadlines

Duties:
The Product Commercialization Consultant provides a broad array of consulting services to food industry clients to ensure resources are in place to achieve their business objectives as well as achieve the government’s economic development priorities. This position provides specialized and varied support to clients to enable them to develop and commercialize new and innovative ingredients and value-added products to market with an emphasis on protein chemistry, extraction and fractionation processes; collects and evaluates pertinent research data for process scale-up and optimization, prepares project costing, quotes and formal reports. Duties also include project management and program development, using knowledge and skills in food science and technology, marketing, data analysis and regulations.
