Key Responsibilities

  • To provide consultation and education for children identified as having extra support needs in the classroom, in child care programs, to community providers and their families.
  • To address challenges in child’s occupational performance by assessing and providing intervention directed at the person, occupation and environmental factors influencing occupational performance.
  • Utilization of research to establish and support evidence-informed practice.
  • Utilizes a client and family centred approach in practice.
  • To develop and document recommendations based on community partners and client/family goals and analysis of non-standardized classroom observations in accordance with Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital documentation policy and College record-keeping standards.
  • Receive, process, triage and schedule referrals from community partners in the Every Child Belongs Model (ECB).
  • Attend monthly ECB meetings provide relevant service delivery updates and wait times.
  • Ability to edit and/or create and present workshops as requested, to child care programs or through the City Wide Training Calendar early education community.
  • Provide coverage for other Occupational Therapists across ELD programs and services as needed
  • Service clients in child care programs in the GTA.
  • Attend monthly Holland Bloorview Practice Council meetings.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Occupational Therapy (or bachelor in Occupational Therapy plus other Masters)
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Membership in an occupational therapy association an asset (CAOT or OSOT)
  • Current standard first aid and CPR- AED level C
  • Experience with current outcome measures such as Canadian Occupational Performance Measure, Goal Attainment Scaling, School Function Assessment
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and effectively and efficiently manage fluctuating responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, community partners, families and members of the inter-disciplinary team
  • Experience working with an early childhood population (birth- 12 years) who have variety of extra support needs
  • Access to a car and a valid driver’s license is required

Physical and Environmental Demands

Including physical/sensory effort, work environment and/or hazardous conditions

  • Fast paced lively environment, requiring agility and considerable physical activity including significant walking, bending, lifting, pushing/pulling, and physical interventions to maintain safety, participation and goal obtainment of children within the learning environment.
  • Transitions/transfers/transports children into specialized and non-specialized equipment for indoor and outdoor play.
  • Required to lift/carry children or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Provides care and support for all daily activities and routines of young children, including but not limited to toileting, feeding, dressing and changing.

Sensory demands:

  • Noise generated within a classroom setting.
  • Sights and smells associated with physical care of children.
