Position Title: Network Specialist

Location: Rotational in Kitimat, BC, Canada

Employment Type: Contract - Project Based

This position reports directly to the Project manager for MMR Canada and will be working on a project site. The position plays a key role within the project to perform Site Acceptance Testing and Site Integration Testing of the industrial facility voice and data services. The primary system elements are wireless networking, Information Technology (IT) networking, and Operational Technology (OT) networking used in industrial processing environments while always keeping safety and quality as top priorities.

This position is based on a rotation schedule (14 days on and 7 days off) in which flights, accommodations and an attractive compensation package will be provided.

Key Duties

• Follow safe work practices and abide by all Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures.
• Read and interpret testing procedures, drawings, code specifications and network / system drawings
• Working collaboratively with our customers, including other contractors, engineers/designers, project managers, and others.
• Field Verification of Systems Installations: Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), Site Integration Testing (SIT)
• Other related tasks, as assigned.
• Use electronic devices and software to inspect and test system operation, and diagnose faults
• Repair, maintain and adjust system components or remove and replace defective parts
• Troubleshoot and isolate faults and failures
• Prepare work related documentation, test, and maintenance reports by required deadlines
• Provide feedback of regular practices and advise of improvement areas.
• Communicate with the other members of the team, other employees, Supervisors, and Managers, clients, vendors, and industry specialists

Qualifications / Requirements

• 5-10+ years’ experience as a network specialist including hands on field experience, ideally in an industrial setting. A diploma in Network Systems, a Telecommunication Technician Trade Certification, CET or equivalent in a related field is preferred.
• Cisco network certification such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE is desirable.
• The ability to work independently under minimal supervision
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting techniques
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and designs
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment while being attentive to details and meeting deadlines
• Ability to read in English and understand technical manuals and network drawings.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills to clearly communicate design details and criteria, project plans, etc. to others inside MMR and our customer’s organization
• Willingness and desire to share information, mentor, work collaboratively, and help others – both inside and outside of the engineering group
• The ideal candidate will be motivated, well organized, a creative thinker and be a proactive team player with the ability to multitask and respect for safety requirements
• Must be able to meet physical demands of the job
• Possess professional customer skills
• A valid motor vehicle license
• Experience with Cisco LAN/WAN networking, including routing and switching, and Aruba Wi-Fi is required.

Additional experience in one or multiple of the systems below would be of benefit, but is not required:

• RFID Systems; Zebra products preferred
• Video Conferencing with Cisco WebEx preferred
• DHCP and DNS servers
• Firewalls with Palo Alto preferred
• Structured cabling and fibre optics
• Hotline phone systems

Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Salary: $75.00-$95.00 per hour

• 10 hour shift
