The Opportunity


The Licensing Analyst will be responsible for handling of standard agency license (or adjusting firm) applications, purchases/amalgamations, and the initial review of non-standard agency license applications as well as the purchases/amalgamations based on equivalency or those which involve suitability concerns.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and approve standard agency applications, amalgamations and purchases in accordance with governing legislation, Council guidelines, and departmental procedures and refer with recommendations, where possible, cases that do not meet standards or indicate suitability or other issues to their Manager for consideration
  • As appropriate, review and approve individual licensing applications for first, re-applications, and amendments; requests for termination of licenses; and changes in authorizations to represent, in accordance with governing legislation, Council guidelines, policies, and department's procedures
  • Respond to licensing agency inquiries
  • Document all pertinent telephone calls and meetings in the file on the Licensing system
  • Prepare and issue correspondence regarding outstanding requirements and clarification of licensing requirements
  • Review and process nominee applications
  • Review and process Agency nominee change requests
  • Review equivalency and suitability submissions for nominee applications in accordance with governing legislation, Council guidelines, policies, precedents, and department's procedures
  • Support the preparation of documents for the Licensing Committee and Council on agency applications
  • Liaise with other regulatory bodies regarding applicants and licensees
  • Address gaps identified in the routine audits of individual applications and identify areas for possible process improvements
  • Handle other duties as assigned by the Manager, Agency Licensing

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience in regulatory, financial services, or related fields.
  • Insurance or financial services education and /or experience is preferred
  • Computer skills, with proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in client service and conflict resolution.
