Lead Site Engineer

Tetra Tech EDS (Engineer Design Services) division is a multidisciplinary team of designers, technologists, and engineers. We specialize in small to mid-sized projects for clients across North America. The types of clients we work for include:
- Heavy industrial facilities
- Pipelines and refineries
- Mineral processing
- Municipal and utilities
- Water treatment
POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Site Engineer will have the main responsibility to represent our Engineer design team at various client sites in the Wood Buffalo Region and foster a solid relationship with our clients.
The Site Engineers may work on one or multiple assigned projects and client accounts to support the project team in the execution of design calculation and preparations of Engineering Reports, Construction Work Packages, Material Requisitions, and other engineering deliverables for Oilsands projects. The Site Engineer may also be required to manage the scope, budget, and schedule for some of the projects.
When assigned to a client portfolio, this individual will be a key resource in driving the sector initiative within the Tetra Tech EDS business unit. This requires developing connections across the EDS business unit and understanding the services that we can offer and the clients we serve.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical & Project Execution
- Leading the engineering effort of Tetra Tech EDS and its sub-contractors to meet project objectives, on time, and on budget.
- Managing, change requests from the Client, suppliers, or internals for effect on overall project scope, schedule, and budget. Consulting with the Project Manager (PM) to get approvals prior to implementation.
- Gathering and distributing project information to the project team.
- Assisting the PM with the administration, planning, coordination, and monitoring of the project.
- Coordinating with other disciplines to ensure inter-discipline requirements of design interface and schedule dependencies are met.
- Generating of participating in studies and detail designs.
- Checking of calculations prepared by others.
- Reviewing engineering designs for compliance with scope, codes, and standards.
- Responsible for adhering to all health and safety policies and guidelines.
Client Account Focus
- Build on established relationships with key clients, primarily in Oil Sands.
- Build client relationships by meeting or exceeding expectations on quality, schedule, budget, and fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Coordinate client meetings involving team members as appropriate.
- Pursue opportunities to communicate as appropriate outside of project work.
- Manage Client’s expectations and discuss the technical/financial aspects in a clear manner through understanding of the Client’s needs.
- Understand the underlying aims of a client in undertaking a project. Determine next steps of a project or pursue new project opportunities that would help achieve these objectives. Communicate this to the Client and Tetra Tech management.
- Understand Client procedures and share best practices with internal team.
- Actively involve in community work within the Woof Buffalo Region.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- 5 to 15 years related to experience in mechanical equipment and piping engineering.
- Multi-discipline engineering experience within an industrial consulting engineering environment is required.
- Previous work with Suncor Energy, Syncrude, and/or Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., will be considered an asset.
- Previous experience with piping design and material requirements for industrial work.
- Organizational skills to effectively handle multiple small projects concurrently in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive client and project team relationships.
- Working knowledge of standards that may include API/ASME.
- Strong attention to detail.
EDUCATION
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered in BC and/or Alberta
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / REQUIREMENTS
- A requirement of working for Tetra Tech is that you are at least 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada. A copy of a valid work permit may be required.
- If you are considered for the position, clearance on all applicable background checks (which may include criminal, identity, educational, and/or credit) and professional reference checks is required. Some Tetra Tech positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
- To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions.
- Periodic travel within Canada to client sites and regional Tetra Tech offices will be required
- Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing and background checks may be required for our client worksites
- Must be able to adhere to our Office Vaccination & Covid Policies. We will be confirming your eligibility to comply with these requirements.
