Range of Pay: $31.21 to $39.37 per hour
(Training Opportunity range of pay is $29.09 to $36.15 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.)

Department: Greater Sudbury Public Libraries

Duties: Under the general direction of the Manager of Citizen Service Centres.

  • Coordinate and evaluate services and library program opportunities in both official languages.
  • Generate press releases and promotional materials to create a public awareness of library services and programs, including writing articles, media releases, and social media engagements.
  • Develop, track, and regularly report on performance measures for library programs and outreach.
  • Conduct outreach and build relationships for the promotion of library services and programs with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a liaison with the community to develop partnerships and plan services that are responsive to community need.
  • Lead, guide and train staff. Ensure effective operation of programming department.
  • Prepare draft staffing schedule for the Manager of Citizen Service Centres’ approval.
  • Investigate, develop, and recommend alternative work methods and changes in job function.
  • Work in cooperation with the Manager of Citizen Service Centres in the development of grant applications to federal and provincial bodies and other applicable funding agencies to provide enhancement of library programs and outreach.
  • Prepare and input payroll and exception reports as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and monitor expenditures relating to areas of responsibility to ensure they are within the budget allocations. Advise management where there are discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with management to identify and implement annual project priorities in support of the strategic plan.
  • Maintain knowledge of current trends in public library service delivery as it relates to programs and outreach.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS’s Safety Manual and the applicable provincial legislation listed therein.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a community college diploma in a related discipline such as media relations, journalism, marketing and promotion.
  • Two and one-half (2½) to five (5) years related experience.
  • Knowledge of current trends in public library programming service delivery.
  • Knowledge of best practices within areas of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of library services and operations.
  • Ability to work with computer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (e.g., file maintenance, word processing, spreadsheet applications, integrated library systems, information input and retrieval, and social media.).
  • Ability to demonstrate supervisory and administrative skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external clients in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
  • French verbal skills highly desirable; written skills an asset.
  • Satisfactory health, attendance, and former employment history.
  • Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver’s licence, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.
